Dorothy Akakem is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) licensed in the State of Maryland and District of Columbia with several years of experience working with individuals with mental health disease. I have strong clinical skills in Patient Assessment, Diagnoses, Medication Management and Disease Prevention. I offer individualize treatment plan according to patient's needs. I treat my patients/clients with respect, dignity and compassion while offering a stigma-free environment for patients to receive care, heal, and grow.

Dorothy specializes in caring for individuals with Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, ADHD, insomnia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), mood disorder, Grief, intellectual disability, behavioral issues and substance use disorders. I also understand that psychotherapy plays a significant role in patients treatment plan and I use it as needed. I am also involve in health coaching. My clients and I will work together to fashion out treatment modalities and goals that best suit each client’s needs and assist them in developing positive coping mechanism. I am culturally sensitive, empathetic, and very particular about involving my clients in every step of their care because I believes this approach is synonymous with the good outcome.
